Huge numbers of souvenirs were sold at world fairs, and this example, a scarf or handkerchief, is printed in four non-naturalistic colours with some of the 1939 New York Fair’s futuristic buildings and pavilions. In the centre can be seen The Trylon, a triangular pylon, and the Perisphere, a sphere housing a diorama of a city of the future; the Aviation Building, which was designed in the form of an airport, is in the bottom right hand corner.
