Wool
Unrelated lace collar
Like the muslin dress seen as a Related Item this two piece dress is made from a fabric printed with an allover sprig pattern and a border in matching colours inspired by the designs of fashionable shawls originally woven in Kashmir. While the muslin dress was summer wear, this example is of winter weight wool. Its construction is simple, its most complex feature being the full flared pagoda sleeves with their two part pointed caps, beneath which white undersleeves would have been worn. The bodice has been designed in the new jacket style, fitted to the to the waist and flaring below, emphasised by its patterned border hem.
The plain hem of the skirt has been added at a later date.
